Small reflection
So yesterday I had a game. With none other than Rokkaku's buchou.

If any of you are saddened about missing it, I will point out that nothing incredibly great happened... I shall also point out that Rokkaku's tennis club captain is a first year.
Ah, good, the excitement died now didn't it?
I will be honest though, it was more useful and interesting than to work on math problems. I believe that any tennis match is training, as easy as it sometimes is.

For those wondering, the score was 6-4. Ore-sama does not need to tell you who won.

One last thing: That.. is really a strange racket he has.

I really can't say I think much of your victory, either. You only play the people you know you can beat... running away from challenges from those who you're afraid of...

Really, why the hell people respect you, I'll never know.

You want a game....?
You really do want one don't you?

Fine, state the day and time and I will be there.
Do make sure it does not conflict with ore-sama's schedule.

Next Wednesday, 6 p.m., the street courts. Feel free to bring your usual entourage of... I believe Echizen called them monkeys?

You shall learn that I need no entourage to be victorious.

I will be there.

Atobe-san! I was supposed to ask you a question yesterday, but I forgot to! Anyway, I wanted to know... what do you think would make a buchou well.. reliable, so others would trust him and talk to him whenever something's up?

...did someone sneak up in that guy's journal...?

Either way, what makes up a respectable buchou is the ability to make the right decisions for the team as well as the ability to keep himself on top. By this of course I mean both physically and mentally, even if some situations are indeed difficult to face.

Of course, charisma helps as well.

Okay, so if I make good decisions and beat everyone at tennis, then my teammates will be willing to come to me if they need anything?

hm... yes and no. This is only a part of the process.

Even though you may deem the decision you make as 'good', others may fail to see it that way. In this case you have to be firm and stand your ground. Of course, by this time, no one even squaks a protests when I do decide something that goes against their will... That is when charisma and reputation come into play.
I have earned my position through my own hard work. I know no one can take it away from me even if they try for the whole year around.
Can you say the same for yourself...?

As for beating everyone at tennis, why yes, it is prefferable.
However, I do think an important point to a game is the challenge, the personal goal you set to yourself.
Being a buchou IS a hard job, but it does have its rewards... At all times, you DO need to be strong, without any visible weaknesses. Many will like to take advantage of them.

Eto... even though I didn't really earn the position of buchou (buchou and fukubuchou are just kinda picked), I think I'm pretty much on par with everyone else on the team tennis-wise.

But, I think I understand what you're saying. Arigatou, Atobe-san!

...Mou, I think I missed lunch.

It's nice that you understand, ore-sama will not allow you any more time for today.

....now the mystery of why HE is the buchou is solved.. Even ore-sama can learn new things from a day to another.
